A Kripke-Joyal Semantics for Noncommutative Logic in Quantales
نویسنده
چکیده
A structural semantics is developed for a first-order logic, with infinite disjunctions and conjunctions, that is characterised algebraically by quantales. The model structures involved combine the “covering systems” approach of Kripke-Joyal intuitionistic semantics from topos theory with the ordered groupoid structures used to model various connectives in substructural logics. The latter are used to interpret the noncommutative quantal conjunction & (“and then”) and its residual implication connectives. The completeness proof uses the MacNeille completion and the theory of quantic nuclei to first embed a residuated semigroup into a quantale, and then represent the quantale as an algebra of subsets of a model structure. The final part of the paper makes some observations about quantal modal logic, giving in particular a structural modelling of the logic of closure operators on quantales.

Truth Values and Connectives in Some Non-Classical Logics
The question as to whether the propositional logic of Heyting, which was a formalization of Brouwer's intuitionistic logic, is finitely many valued or not, was open for a while (the question was asked by Hahn). Kurt Gödel (1932) introduced an infinite decreasing chain of intermediate logics, which are known nowadays as Gödel logics, for showing that the intuitionistic logic is not finitely (man...
متن کاملA Reduction Theorem for the Kripke-Joyal Semantics: Forcing Over an Arbitrary Category can Always be Replaced by Forcing Over a Complete Heyting Algebra
It is assumed that a Kripke-Joyal semantics A = 〈C,Cov,F, 〉 has been defined for a first-order language L. To transform C into a Heyting algebra C on which the forcing relation is preserved, a standard construction is used to obtain a complete Heyting algebra made up of cribles of C. A pretopology Cov is defined on C using the pretopology on C. A sheaf F is made up of sections of F that obey fu...
متن کاملLocales are Not Pointless
The Kripke-Joyal semantics is used to interpret the fragment of intuitionistic logic containing ^;! and 8 in the category of locales. An axiomatic theory is developed that can be interpreted soundly in two ways, using either lower or upper powerlocales, so that pairs of separate results can be proved as single formal theorems. Openness and properness of maps between locales are characterized by...
متن کاملTowards a Logic for Reasoning About Learning in a Changing World
We develop an algebraic modal logic that combines epistemic and dynamic modalities with a view to modelling information acquisition (learning) by automated agents in a changing world. Unlike most treatments of dynamic epistemic logic, we have transitions that “change the state” of the underlying system and not just the state of knowledge of the agents. The key novel feature that emerges is the ...
